Why shocked?
Expecting diamonds,
a jeweled crown,
love?
No tiaras here, only
burlap sacks of unused respect you wear on hips and under eyes; gravity doesn’t lie, here.
Wrinkles too, etched with rough charcoal truths;
it’s not pretty at dusk, under swirling gray clouds,
in shadows, alone.
Welcome to the Minotaur’s labyrinth,
wasted cubed objects of consumed passion;
as if you didn’t know.
But come near,
feel cold glass,
read my bloodless lips,
listen to yourself,
Walk away.
Walk away.
Walk away.

Wow! This is really really beautiful. And powerful. Well done! That tree above is just absolutely magnificent! Is it a tree you know? Did you take that photo?
These lines are amazing:
Wrinkles too, etched with rough charcoal truths;
it’s not pretty at dusk, under swirling gray clouds,
in shadows, alone
At 51, I'm closer to dusk than not and am ever amazed at the aging I see. I do believe, however, that the wonder of me at this age far exceeds the disappointment of lost youth/beauty.
Powerful images conjoured up in this one.
I don't know if it's just me, but I swear there's a face in that there tree...on the right!
Nicely done.
Walk away is a powerful work in it's imagery and emotiveness
. Thank you for sharing it.
I enjoyed reading this aloud, Henry, the pace of it, the way the words feel as well as sound. Just a marvelous piece.
Powerful piece inspired by a great movie. "wasted cubed objects of consumed passion" That line is so visual.
Interesting! Just like Picasso and his arts :)
What an excellent abstract piece, so appropriate for the theme you chose.
I loved it.
This really caught me, so I gave you one of my weekly Goddess Awards. You can collect it anytime you like, if you like.
Happy Blogging!

A breathtaking poem...both thought provoking and captivating....i could hardly "walk away" from your blog. :-)
'Wrinkles too, etched with rough charcoal truths;

Lovely lines.
As I age I prefer dusk to full daylight. lol The twenty something I was (many years ago) doesn't look good in bright light any longer. :-)
Thanks for commenting on my blog. I appreciate your visit.
Lovely words Henry, lovely.
And I still want your tree!
Anna :p]
I starting to recognize your very unique voice. That's an accomplishment: when a reader can pick your poem out of a "line-up."
Very powerful poem!
Love your words, especially these
wasted cubed objects of consumed passion
